Nadia KalmanNadia has published short stories in the Walrus, Gettysburg Review, Madison Review, Antigonish Review, Subtropics, and other magazines. Her awards include full fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Ragdale Colony, Summer Literary Seminars in St. Petersburg, and I-Park; and a nomination for the 2009 O. Henry Prize. Nadia has also written for children, having collaborated on Living and Working Together: Neighborhoods, a social studies textbook; and The Letter Book, a series of poems for emerging readers. (Metropolitan Teaching and Learning Company published both books.) As a former English teacher in the New York public school system, Nadia is familiar with the Workshop Method, Balanced Literacy, genre study, and with issues relating to English Language Learners. She is currently a writing consultant to Summit Academy Charter School, where she helps content-area teachers integrate writing into their lessons. Nadia knows basic Spanish and fluent Russian, and she is excited about the chance to work with other educators and help children learn to love writing. |
