Loyal Miles came to Teachers & Writers Collaborative in summer 2007. He previously worked in development and communications at CASES, the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services. He received an MFA in creative writing from Indiana University, where he was a writing instructor and a grant and communications writer for a federally-funded program for first-generation college students. He has undergraduate degrees in English and psychology from the University of Kansas.
Amy Swauger became director of T&W in 2005. Swauger was formerly executive director of the National Academy of Education and of Washington Independent Writers. Prior to that, she held a number of positions at the American Association of University Women (AAUW), including director of the Association and of the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund. She has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including the DC Rape Crisis Center and CFRE International, and is an adviser to the Schimel Lode, a family foundation in Washington, DC. She has a degree in journalism and political science from American University.
Barbara Triton (formerly Pucci) has worked for T&W since 1999. She received her BA in Art Studio/Printmaking from University of California at Santa Barbara in 1990. She received an Abrams Grant for bookmaking and is a graduate of the Institute for Not-for-Profit Management at Columbia University. A fiber artist and printmaker, her work has been shown at the Mathers Gallery in Cleveland, OH, The Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY, and the United States Embassy in Costa Rica. As an artist for T&W and Con Ed, she participated in both the NYC Cow Parade (2000) and the Big Apple Fest (2004).
